I never thought that one ordinary day in my hometown would change the way I see my city completely. First of all when you are going to have your first city tour with foreigners you do not know how to act what to say when you are about to meet people you never seen before. In your head you are having a lot of different options for how to start, introduce yourself, so they won’t feel embarrassed. Yet the most important thing is being friendly. Being in a foreign city where you don’t understand the language, don’t know the roads it can truly be scary.
The city from Above: Mayr Hayastan
We began our tour from Imperial hotel to our first destination Victory Park. From here everyone could see the beauty of the city. Here as well is the statue of Mother Armenia and the museum or how locals used to say ‘‘Mayr Hayastan’’ museum under it. While being there everyone wanted to take photos and memories with them. There also was the eternal fire so it interests them and they wanted to take photos of it as well. Then we entered the museum and after walking around and getting acquainted for a while, we left. But what was unforgettable in this place it was the kindness of visitors. Even the museum staff were surprised by their friendly attitude, as each of them thanked for letting them in before leaving. So we left this place with full of emotions and we continued our way to the next destination.
Souvenir Shopping at Vernissage
Our next destination was Vernissage. There are always many people, souvenirs, paintings, and handmade items there. The guests especially liked the bags and national souvenirs many things were bought there. It was nice to see how they were walking looking around for gifts not only for themselves but also for their relatives. This was not just walking from one side to another and looking what there are it was also warm conversations about almost everything. Then we kept going to Republic Square. Walking here was interesting full of amusing conversations and of course with photos.
City sights: Opera, Northern Avenue & Blue Mosque
After we went to Northern avenue to see the busiest part of our city. Full of beautiful paintings in the walls, musicians singing in the streets. By a happy coincidence, Valentine’s Day was just around the corner, and some parts of the city were beautifully adorned for the occasion. One of that was a phone booth covered with flowers, hearts and words of love. They liked this booth so much that they were very happy by doing photos near it, showing hearts and love to everyone. Then our tour reached to Opera House and Swan lake where we walking for a while and were enjoying our time. But unfortunately time was not on our side, though we managed to enjoy everything in our own way and were ready to move on for not to be late from our next stop the Blue Mosque where the pray was about to start.
Blue Mosque was not just the final stop of our city tour it was also the place where we have to say goodbye to each other. While finishing our tour we all realized that the most valuable part of that day was not only the sights. It was the heartfelt conversations about culture, family, traditions. By the end of our tour, I no longer felt nervous because of being in this position for the first time, and also I felt happy as I managed to show my city to my guests and answer to all of their questions. So due to these people I understood that being a guide for a foreigner in your own country is a very important. All our city tours are unique in their own way, if you want some new experiences full of various emotions then we are waiting for you.
