Day 1. Explore Armenian Culture
1. History Museum of Armenia: The History Museum was founded in 1919 in the First Republic. The museum keeps the national collection, which is exhibited in the departments of archeology, ethnography, numismatics and contemporary history. The items create a complete picture of the history and culture of Armenia, ranging from prehistoric times to the XV century. In the museum, you can find the cultural communications with Old East (Egypt, Syria, Iran, Rome, Byzantium). 1. Garni: Cultural Museum-Reserve in Garni includes the “Garni” castle (3-2 centuries BC), Pagan temple (77 AD), bath with a mosaic floor and palatial buildings. It is believed that the castle was founded in 2nd century BC and was dedicated to the God of sun Mihr. Garni is a unique ancient the pagan temple. “Garni” historical-cultural complex was awarded by the UNESCO-Greece 2011 Prize after Melina Mercury. This museum is one of the most visited monuments in the Republic of Armenia.
2. Zvartnots: Zvartnots is a temple of an early medieval architecture, which in 2000 was included in UNESCO’s World Heritage list. It was built in 643-652 and was protected until the 10th century, after which it was destroyed because of an earthquake. Until the 20 th century, it was soil-covered. During the excavations, the temple, catholicos palace, bath, cells, columns, caps, sun carved clock, mosaics, frescoes and other valuable items were found, which were included in the museum’s exhibition.
