“Megerian Carpet” Museum, Yerevan ​

Armenians are one of the oldest nations in the world. Carpet weaving has a centuries-old history. From ancient times, the carpets were a necessity in Armenians’ life. Over four generations of Megerians family have been involved in the restoration of old carpets and in the production of new ones. Over time, they developed a way of get natural dye for rugs and reproductions of old technology node, which created “the loom to create their own decorative rugs”.

Gumi Shuka (GUM market)

The displays of fresh and dried fruits at this covered market are pretty as a picture, so it’s fortunate that the stallholders don’t seem to mind tourists photographing their wares. In summer, the fresh fruit is magnificent, with peaches, cherries, apricots and berries of every description tempting shoppers.

St. Grigor Lusavoritch, Yerevan, Armenia

The St Grigor Lusavorich Cathedral is the symbol of the 1700th anniversary of the proclamation of Christianity as a state religion in Armenia as well as a tribute to St Gregory, the illuminator, who was responsible for introducing Christianity to Armenia. This church is one of the newest church in Armenia and was built in 2001.

Vernissage Market, Yerevan

Vernisage is the biggest flea market in Yerevan. It works all the year around. Here you can find souvenirs starting from Soviet times to the modern days; hand made crafts of all themes and colors. The prices are relatively cheaper than in the souvenir shops. If you happen to be in Yerevan on the weekends make sure you visit this place if you don’t buy anything at least you can take some great photos of this place.

Republic Square, Yerevan

Matenadaran

Matenadaran named after Mesrop Mashtots is registered in UNESCO’s World Network of memory. It  is located in Yerevan and presents to you a collection of ancient manuscripts. It is “one of the most important places of preservation of national memory and progress.” The Matenadaran Museum Complex consists of 15 demonstration halls, which display thousands of exhibits intended for permanent, variable and exclusive displays. From the 20,000 ancient manuscripts kept in Matenadaran, holistic manuscripts and fragments, documents, old books, samples of precious bindings, some miniatures and manuscripts are exhibited in foreign languages. Here you can find the smallest book – Church Calendar  from 1434 AC (weight 19g) and biggest one is Msho Charentir (1200-1202 AC), which weighs 27.5 kg. The oldest manuscript fragments from V-VI centuries, and the most ancient illustrations and miniatures are in Echmiadzin Gospel. The oldest complete manuscript is Lazarev gospel (887 AC).

History Museum of Armenia

In this museum you can see the oldest shoe in the world, discovered in the Areni Vayots Dzor. Shoe was created 5637-5387 years ago. The museum possesses the cuneiform inscription of 782 BC about the foundation of the city of Erebuni (Yerevan), by the Urartian king ArgishtiThe wooden unique decorative door of the St. Arakelots Monastery which was founded nine centuries ago is currently located in this museum. The armenian history museum keeps the national collection – about 400.000 objects.

Yerevan Museum of Armenia

Yerevan is the 12th capital of Armenia, and was founded in 782 BC and it was called Erebuni. You can find information on the history of our old and new city in the Yerevan History Museum, established in 1931. In the museum different cuneiform records and many other items proving the rich past of the city are kept. Approximately 94.000 items are collected from ancient times to the present days, and represent the rich spiritual and material culture of the capital city. Among the exhibits there are collections of archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic items, fine arts, photos etc.
